Thoughts on Being a Parent

Just now, sitting in my chair with my little princess asleep in my lap I started to think about how much she means and about how much she changed my entire outlook on life and what is or isn't important.  There are a bunch of quotes and things that express my thoughts much better than I ever could, so I decided to post them here.  Maybe some will remind us all to slow down, and appreciate the little things.  Maybe some will make us laugh and remember to be silly with our kids.  Enjoy!!

Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.  ~Elizabeth Stone

“If I had my had my child to raise over again:
I’d build self-esteem first and the house later
I’d finger paint more and point the finger less
I would do less correcting and more connecting
I’d take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes
I would care to know less and know to care more
I’d take more hikes and fly more kites
I’d stop playing serious and seriously play
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars
I’d do more hugging and less tugging
I’d see the oak tree in the acorn more often
I would be firm less often and affirm much more
I’d model less about the love of power
And more about the power of love.
~ Diane Loomans

The more you read, the more things you will know.

The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

~ Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

“If you raise your children to feel that they can accomplish any goal or task they decide upon, you will have succeeded as a parent and you will have given your children the greatest of all blessings.”

~ Brian Tracy

“Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so they have very little time with their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of the peace of the world.

- Mother Theresa

“Giving birth is like taking your lower lip

and forcing it over your head.”

~ Carol Burnett

A two-year old is kind of like having a blender, but you don't have a top for it.

Jerry Seinfeld

I don't believe professional athletes should be role models.  I believe parents should be role models.... It's not like it was when I was growing up.  My mom and my grandmother told me how it was going to be.  If I didn't like it, they said, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out."  Parents have to take better control.  ~Charles Barkley

In spite of the seven thousand books of expert advice, the right way to discipline a child is still a mystery to most fathers and... mothers.  Only your grandmother and Ghengis Khan know how to do it.  ~Billy Cosby

People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one.  ~Leo J. Burke

Well, I'm off to do a little cleaning/laundry, and then work on some new designs.  If the the little one sleeps long enough, but I won't be counting those chickens just yet... :)  If you feel so inclined, add any quotes about parenting/children that you love, or make you laugh.  I would love to hear them, and share them!!
